Coaches

The more aware you are of mental and emotional health conditions, the better you will be to recognize some of the symptoms and be able to alert other coaches and parents if some behaviors are concerning. There is a lot of information under the RESOURCES menu tab. Some highlights include:

Review the variety of helplines available. Some of these are designed for crisis situations, but many others (and the organizations that sponsor them) address specific topics (e.g., bullying, eating disorders, etc.) or specific groups of people (e.g., LGBTQIA+ communities). Become aware of these resources.

There are specific pages devoted to over 20 different mental and emotional health conditions such as anger, anxiety, self-esteem, self-harm, fear, grief, and traumatic brain injury, just to name a few. There are articles about these topics that can familiarize you with these conditions and their recognition.

There are links to several national organizations that specialize in a variety of mental health issues, and each has even more in-depth resources. One of these is the QPR Institute, an organization that specializes in training people to recognize the signs of suicidal ideations, and how to deal with these. LiFe Foundation can arrange for this training when there is enough interest (other coaches, other parents) to fill a class.

Another website location is the NEWS, UPDATES AND BLOG menu tab. Here you will find news and commentary on current situations, a list of newly added content to the website, and selected blogs from different professionals.

We recommend spending about 20-30 minutes per month (mark your calendar!) browsing through different sections and content on the website. By doing this, in short order you will become quite familiar with the available information and resources. You will also become much more knowledgeable about various mental health conditions, possibly how to recognize some of these, and some constructive ways to address them.

If there is any information that you cannot find, or even have some questions or thoughts on this matter, you can reach out to the Foundation directly by using the Contact Us link on the website.
